Mechanical Design Engineer

Office: Alpharetta, GA

Overview of Job Function:
The Mechanical Design Engineer is responsible for using a Computer Aided Design (CAD) computer system to create, update and modify intricate technical diagrams of machinery and related components. This position would consist of 75% working in an office environment and 25% of the time working in the shop reviewing equipment and its functionality.


Principal Duties and Essential Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for using CAD to create, update and modify intricate technical diagrams of machinery and related components.

  • Create manual drawings for engineering projects.

  • Check generated drawings against design calculations and applicable codes.

  • Create installation instruction guide as applicable.

  • Liaise with key stakeholders to obtain clear specifications.

  • Support engineering staff with necessary drawings from concept to handover.

  • Work closely with engineering staff to collaborate on designs and production aspects of equipment design and production.

  • Ability to problem solve and provide input in manufacturing processes.

  • Hands on ability to work in shop environment to understand the functionality of the equipment.


Minimum Requirements:

  • A minimum of 6 years of demonstrated experience working in a similar role as a Draftsman or Design Engineer using Solidworks or ability to quickly become proficient in its use as a drafting/design tool.

  • A 4 year college degree in a related field or the equivalent years of work history.

  • Proficient drafting experience which includes creating part drawings, reading blueprints and creating BOM’s.

  • Excellent mathematical skills, comprehension of technical specifications and requirements.

  • Strong project management and time management skills; ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.

  • Strong communication, technical writing, editing and grammar skills.

  • Demonstrate self-initiative, heightened organization skills, positive team attitude, creativity and attention to detail.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team and take on new tasks with high level of difficulty.

  • Strong demonstrated experience in version control of drawing sets.


Preferred Requirements:

  • Experience working in a services or consulting organization.
